- Proof of Age: Birth certificate (especially if under 18).
- Previous Marriages: If previously married, provide the exact date of divorce or death certificate of the former spouse.
Apply for the License
- In-Person Application: Visit a local Florida courthouse or Clerk of Court’s office. (Schedule an Appointment: It's recommended to call ahead or check online for appointment availability.)
- Online Application: Some counties offer online pre-application forms to expedite the process. Check your local county’s Clerk of Court website for this option.
Pay the Fees
- Standard Fee: The cost is typically around $93.50.
- Discount: Florida residents who complete a state-approved premarital course can receive a discount, reducing the fee to around $61.
Understand the Waiting Period
- Florida Residents: There's a three-day waiting period unless a premarital course is completed.
- Non-Residents: No waiting period; you can use the license immediately.
Receive Your License
- Validity: The license is valid for 60 days from the date of issuance.
- Ceremony: Must take place within this period and be performed by an authorized officiant who forms same day, last minute wedding ceremonies.
Special Scenarios
- First-Time Marriages: Follow the standard steps outlined above.
- Remarriages - Provide the exact date of divorce or death certificate of the former spouse.
- Non-U.S. Citizens - Must provide a valid passport as identification and meet the same requirements as U.S. citizens.
